Dust textures are patterns that appear on surfaces when dust settles onto them. They can be caused by windblown sand, raindrops, snowflakes, insects, birds, animals, humans, traffic, machinery, etc.
The most common types of dust textures are:
Sand dunes (also called “sand ripples”) – Sand is blown into a pile and then smoothed out with the wind. The result looks like waves in the sand.
– Sand is blown into a heap and then smoothed out by the wind. The result appears as waves in the sand. Dune fields are formed by this process.
Dry lake beds – Water evaporates from lakes or ponds and leaves behind a thin layer of fine particles. When the wind blows over the surface, it picks up these particles and deposits them in layers. This creates a pattern similar to dry lake beds.

– Water evaporates from lakes and ponds and leaves behind a very thin layer of fine particles, which are picked up by the wind and deposited in layers. This results in a pattern similar to dry bed.
Snow drifts – Snow falls and accumulates on top of each other until they form a thick layer of snow. As the wind blows across the surface, it picks off the snow and drops it back down again. This causes the snow to accumulate in layers.
– Snow falls and accumulations on top of each other. It forms a thick layer of snow which is then dropped by the wind. This causes the snow accumulation to occur in layers.
Frost heaves – Frost heaves are created when frost builds up on an object and expands outward. If the object is not strong enough to resist the expansion, it will break apart. The broken pieces fall away and leave a pattern of cracks.
– Frost builds up on objects and expands outward. If it cannot withstand the pressure, it breaks apart. The broken pieces drop away and leave a pattern of cracks.

Frosted glass – A frosted glass effect occurs when water droplets freeze on the outside of a windowpane. When the sun shines through the window, light reflects off the frozen droplets creatinga frosty appearance.
– Water droplets freeze on the outer surface of a windowpane and reflect light. Ice crystals – Ice crystals form when water freezes at low temperatures. The ice crystals grow larger and larger as more water freezes around them. Eventually, they become so large that they shatter and fall to the ground. These shards create a pattern of holes in the ice.
–Water freezes at low temperatures.
Pollen grains – Pollen grains are tiny plant seeds that float in the air. When they land on a flower, they stick to its petals and pollinate it. When the wind blows across the pollen-covered flowers, it carries the pollen grains along with it. When the wind stops blowing, the pollen grains settle to the ground where they can fertilize new plants.
